Independence Day Fireworks 2011: Miramar, Florida

Update 7/2/12: If you're looking for info on 2012, I posted this short summary

The City of Miramar will hold its Independence Day Celebration on Monday, July 4, 2011 at Miramar Regional Park, located at 16801 Miramar Parkway. How do I know? Yeah, I couldn't find it on the City's Calendar of Events either (though maybe you can now).

So let me introduce you to a newsletter that came with my water bill called Miramar City Beat. I had never heard of it, but it looks like an interesting resource, and as you can see, the online version pretty much summarizes the 4th of July event.

Basically all you need to bring are your friends and family, some blankets and chairs, some smiles, and personally I'd recommend some insect repellent. This is a FREE event which will start at 7 pm and includes rides for children, a live band, and vendors with refreshments. And of course, the finale of the night, the fireworks display, will begin at 9 pm. Last year, the fireworks started promptly at 9 pm, and if you've ever been to a large planned event at Miramar Regional Park, you will know that getting in can take a little waiting in line in your car. What I'm saying is to get there with some time to comfortably spare.

Somerset Academy Central Miramar

Every day I see visitors to this site that are trying to find information about the new charter school in Miramar: Somerset Academy Central Miramar. To be honest, I didn't know much about it until recently, and still certainly don't know everything. So if you have something to add, please comment below.

What I do have, however, is a letter from Principal Shannine Sadesky to parents of Somerset Academy Miramar about this new Pre-K through 12th grade school, opening for the 2011-2012 school year. It is in this letter that Principal Sadesky lets everyone know about some of the personnel decisions they have made, the vision for the schools, and the goals to make the Somerset schools a united family. She will be Principal for both campuses.

I have uploaded the letter for you to read below if you'd like. You can see who the leadership for each school will be, the locations, the contact information, etc. The new school's website is still in its early stages, but I'm sure much more informative content is on its way. If you happen to have any photos, I'd be interested in publishing them. Let me know.

Miramar Park of Commerce

The Miramar Park of Commerce is located just east of Red Road on both sides of Miramar Parkway. Let me tell you, this place is huge and you can easily get lost. Just look at the size of it on this city map, it's #9.  They have some of the tenants listed there as well, though I'm not sure that it's up to date. There are definitely hundreds of businesses in this complex. GE Healthcare, ADT Security, FedEx, Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Institute and even the Miramar Police Department are a few off the top of my head. I took a handful of photos, but this is but a small representation of what you will find. The property appears to be well-maintained and you can't beat the convenience of its location, right off of the Florida Turnpike. There is even still a field that is open for development should that be an attractive option.

Surprisingly, I could not find a website for this place. However, what I did for you was take the photos below, the first being a contact phone number if you are interested in more information or leasing space. I also found three contact names and an address from a business journal article published two years ago. I guess they could still be valid, but not sure. The phone number hasn't changed though, so that's probably the way to start:
