Miramar Veterans -- Memorial Day

Hey, Miramar and neighbors.

I'm watching this PBS Memorial Day special, a bit of an emotional mess. Thanks to all of our soldiers and veterans! I love you guys.

Who are our city's vets, active duty? You live in my neighborhood? You need something from me? You tell me!

Who else is in? Yeah, that's what I thought!

Fountains of Miramar

Just west of I-75 where Miramar Parkway meets Dykes Road is a pretty nice outdoor shopping plaza called the Fountains of Miramar. When I moved to Miramar in 2004, only the Home Depot, a gas station and maybe a bank existed. So it was really interesting to pass by the construction zone and see the erection of Ross, Pet Supermarket, Office Depot, Starbucks, Marshalls, Benihana, Panera Bread, Supercuts, and a few dozen others. I've personally been in almost all of those plus a few others I can't remember now. If I left your store out, or maybe it's your favorite store in this shopping center, leave a comment and let me know and tell me why it's your favorite. I'll let you know how you can send me a photo to include here.

The traffic getting in and out of this place has a lot to be desired but once you're in the parking lot, you'll have no issues whatsoever. So just have patience if you need to wait through two red traffic lights. Put a smile on your face and know you are almost there. The property is also well maintained and welcoming.

Here are a few pictures I took this morning, mostly in order. Remember I am not a professional photographer, though some of these are better than the actual store website photos, and my bratty kids in the back seat were impatiently waiting to hit McDonalds! This isn't close to all of the stores either. Hope you can make it--the stores are pretty nice. If you live in Miramar, always consider shopping here before going up the road to that other less-convenient, overpriced place. Shop at home, and let's continue to make Miramar the destination where everyone wants to be!

Update 4/18/2011: If you are interested in leasing space in either the shopping center or the outparcels in front of it, send me an email. I'm pretty sure I've figured out who the correct contacts would be for you.

Update 6/5/2010: Here is another strong shopping plaza review with numbers, Miramar Square, located on the corner of Flamingo Road with Miramar Parkway.

June 2010 Through November 2010 City of Miramar Swimming Class Schedule

Update 5/16/2011: Here is the newest class schedule.

Update 2/8/2011: Here is the newest schedule that will take you through early May, 2011

Dear Reader.

I know you didn't come here today to hear me babble, but you owe me, so listen for three sentences. I told you two days ago that this newest swimming class schedule for the City of Miramar East and Regional Park West Aquatic Complexes might come out today. It did. The dude that answered the phone told me he'd fax it to me, but after four hours of not receiving that, I just went to the park. Guess what? The schedule wasn't to be released until tomorrow, and the guy at the gate wouldn't even give me a copy, and I did beg. When I got home, I found that the first guy did fax it, it just took forever to leave the City's fax server!

So I bring you the Weekday and Weekend class schedules. Remember, folks, these classes fill up fast. Click the pictures below to see them larger. And, as Nick Burns on SNL says, "You're Welcome!"

City of Miramar Swimming Class Schedules

Update 5/16/2011: Here is the newest class schedule.

I took my son to the Regional Park Aquatic Complex (West) last night for his swimming classes. I tried to sign him up for next week's continuation, but was too late. The class at the time I needed is full. I asked to keep a schedule. The guy handed me a crumpled up piece of paper, which accounts for the two photos below.

I asked the guy if this was online anywhere. He said NO. I asked him if it bothered him to receive so many calls when it seems to be very logical to place it on their website. I guess it doesn't. I asked him for the June forward schedule, too, but he said that wouldn't be available for several weeks. A bit strange but whatever. For more information about the Aquatic Complex, I've already written one posting. But I felt like another would be beneficial, with the schedule and tips.

So, the two photos below are the best I can do to help you with Weekday and Weekend classes at both the East (they wrote "EAS", LOL) and West Regional Aquatic Complexes. These will only help you for the next two sets of sessions ending early June. I will try to get a cleaner copy of the new schedule when it's out as well. Also, make sure you call them to confirm everything as things change, and classes, as you heard above, fill up quickly. This isn't my work. I'm just trying to help you out.

By the way, for all of the strangeness of these schedules, my son's entry-level class is absolutely excellent, and he has really developed some skills in just 6 classes so far!

Again, these aren't great, mainly because of what I had to work with, but I don't think you find them anywhere else online. Click them and they will be larger.

Update 5/11/2010: I just got off the phone with the guy at the aquatic complex and he told me to call him on 5/13 to see if the city approved the schedule for after June 6 yet. I'll get that schedule, either in person or by email if I can bribe the guy then. Don't bother calling before then, he said. I'm trying my best for you!

Update 5/13/2010: Here it is, people. The schedules for June through November, 2010.
